I've got an 18 month old I-Mac and have been using Office 2004 for a number of years. I've been a Mac user since 1987. Two days ago, out of the blue, I got the following message when I attempted to open a Word document, "Microsoft Word quit unexpectedly." There is a scroll down window with Problem Details and System Configuration. There are also two buttons: One says, "OK" and the other says, "Reopen." In the past when this has occurred, I have hit
the "Reopen" button and everything was restored and operating. Now when I hit the "Reopen" button, the message window closes and instantly
opens up again. Hitting the "OK" button makes the message window go away. However, I'm unable to open any Office document. I've attempted to reload Office 2004 onto the hard drive. However, I still get the same error message after loading it and attempting to open a document. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you recently upgraded to Lion? Office 2004 is not compatible with Lion.

Thanks for the response. However, I'm using Leopard.
Is there a suggestion you might have considering Leopard.
I'm really puzzled.

Try Office from another user account. Create one if you need to.

Thanks, Michael. That worked! Do I need to create a new administrator account and then discard
the old one?

The problem probably comes from a corrupted Preference List (*.plist) file in your user profile. If you locate it and delete it, you can continue to use the same account.

Thanks, again, Michael. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Been out of town.
Can you suggest where I might locate my "user profile?" I tried the help window to
no avail.

Your "user profile" is the entire contents of your home folder.

See if this helps:
