Have recently purchased a Mbox 2 Mini to use with some pro tools HD files I had.

Am having major performance issues, on the macpro described in my sig, it struggles to playback 6 or more tracks, the audio files are aiff 24bit 44.1 converted down from 96.

I get a range of error messages, most commonly is a CPU overload, but occasionally a USB audio error message

I don't really understand it, as if i export the files to disk, and load them in Logic Pro, i can playback 50ish tracks before i have the same problem, and can easily playback 20 or 30 tracks no problem

my question is, am I doing something wrong, there are a few plugins on the drum and vocal tracks of course, but most of them are inactive as they're FilterBank, which is way out of my price range. Is there a free (haha i wish) or cheaper alternative that achieves a similar result, all i want to do is tighten and compress a kick in and a snare top. they sound really flat currently

thanks

Iggy

That is what is causing the issue. When I run PT LE 7.4 in Leopard 10.5.1, I get the same. The only thing you can do is raise the H/W Buffer Size in Setup > Playback Engine from the default of 256 Samples.

I simply keep an install of Mac OS X 10.4.9 Tiger on another drive and run PT from there until Leopard gets qualified.

Did increasing the buffer help at all?

PT 7.4 is working well in 10.5.1 - the tip is to set it to "ONE PROCESSOR" in the playback engine.

Alot of the errors, you're getting (Cory) are only happening with that config, while in the 2 processor setting.

I'm running PT 7.4 on a MacBook Pro and an iMac BOTH running 10.5.1 and performing really well (on one processor)

Iggy - sadly there is just "No love" with 7.3.1 / Leo - nor will there be.

PT 7.4.1 (I suspect) will be a Leo specific release from Digidesign any day now.

thanks guys, i upgraded to 7.4.1 and now set to one processor instead of 4 it's working great as far as i can tell, it's still a shame that my mac can clearly playback more thank 32 tracks, logic can do 57, but LE is limited to 32 :(

Yeah, I forked out $500.00 for the "Music Production Toolkit" to expand Pro-Tools LE Track Count to 48 Stereo Tracks (96 Tracks)

However, I've got an HD System at the Studio, and having to Stem Mix sessions I take home, or on the road, to work on, overdub, and edit, was getting to be too much of a pain.

i totally cant justify that, the pro tools HD files i have use the filterbank plugin on almost every track, and they sound so different without them, i just can't afford that either

The one CPU trick still gave me an error until I bumped the buffer to 1024. Working well in Leo, though still can't use the MBox mini with Core Audio as the standard audio output - only works within a DAW. I still boot from the Tiger drive for anything serious.

;)

Yeah Core Audio + Leo = :(

Any day now though - PT HD 7.4.1 for Leo has been released - LE is next.

Now - for al Future Pro-Toolers on OSG - we've got our own "Pro-Tools Sticky"
