I am running Tiger 10.4.11 on an iMac which is 12 months old. I am intending to upgrade to Leopard but wondered what basic precautionary measures, other than obvious backing up of files etc, do I need to do prior to installation. Any tips from you guys that have bitten the bullet would be appreciated.

I'm a stickler for wiping the drive clean and installing from scratch. I erase with zero when the drive is new and if I suspect problems. The only time I ever upgrade in place is to experiment with the process.

I have done Leopard installs on two machines both as upgrades and from clean installs. Both have worked flawlessly. If you decide to go the upgrade route make sure that the Tiger install is rock solid. If you are experiencing any problems at all either resolve them first or choose the clean install route.

Posting on another forum I have been advised to possibly wait for 10.5.4 before upgrading as there are problems at the moment with the current 10.5.1. Is that correct? My current state with Tiger is that I have no issues or problems whatsoever so why wait??? :?

The currently release is 10.5.2. Leopard did break some apps, you might check this list to see if you have/use any. If not, I'd say go ahead, I'm experiencing no problems with Leopard.

Yukay,

I don't know squat when it comes to computers. There's the disclaimer. When my Leopard disk came, I popped it in.

Everything installed as it should. Everything works as it should as far as I can tell.

Golfer, that's a valuable list. Thanks for sharing the link.
