I just downloaded Safari 5 to my iMac G5, OS 10.5.8 Leopard and it will not launch. I get a minimized gray page that soon crashes.

Have you emptied the cache, reset Safari, disabled or uninstalled any plug-ins, rebooted?

Yes, I have reset Safari and rebooted, I originally downloaded the update from Software Update, when it did not work I went to Apple's website and downloaded the Leopard version of Safari 5.

What is occurring is that when I click on Safari in the dock, Safari appears in the menu bar, however there is no web page .....nothing, when I go to File and attempt to open a new window...........nothing.

Try using Safari 5 from another account; create one if you have to. If it works OK from there, then the problem is confined to your user account. If you see the same thing, then I don't have a good answer. You can download Safari 4 and downgrade.

I upgraded from the Apple autosite and everything went just fine. Have been running 5 for about 3 days now and have had no problems at all with it.

I have resolved the problem............in the most drastic manner, I did a clean install of Mac OS X. I have also seen reference to others having issues with Safari 5 crashing on at launch. I am not going to try to add 5 to my iMac G5. However, I have updated to Safari 5 on my MacBook Pro without incident, I really like the Reader feature, it is great. Thanks for all your input!

You may be "lucky" I find with 10.5 it crashes all the time.
Unfortunately it seems quite difficult to uninstall?

Mine had been crashing periodically. It seems to happen after I have been running it for a few days. Flash might also be causing it.

I have yet to have a glitch with Safari 5.0.

I am running 10.6.4 and use "ClickToFlash".

Perhaps Bmer's suspicions about Flash are valid!

I had an incident a couple of days ago where Safari 5 was unresponsive. I used Activity Monitor to force-quit the Flash plug-in, and Safari behavior returned to normal. I also use Click2Flash. Flash is a problem. I have not upgraded to the newest version of Flash from Adobe, preferring to wait for Apple's update.

No problem with Safari 5.0 on any of my machines - and I use Click-to-Flash on all of them.
