My fiance is trying to use iMovie to compose a movie she has recorded with her webcam on her MBP. I believe she had 70+ gb of data before starting her project, and now, after some editing she is down to less than 1gb.

The movie was originally 30-60 minutes in length, as I said, recorded with the built-in cam on her MacBook Pro. She has made several edits and trimmed the movie down into several smaller clips and she can't complete her project because she has ran out of disk space. She has tried deleting clips she no longer needs and emptying the trash inside iMovie, but nothing seems to free up additional space.

All I can think is that iMovie is storing cached data somewhere on the computer of the original clips, but I don't know where they are so that I can remove them. Stranger even is that the iMovie project file hovers around 8gb in size. It seems a little large. Where did her 70gb go and how can I free up some on her laptop so she can finish her project?

Thanks!

whatsize

i use this app on a regular basis and it's perfect for your situation, will calculate disk space usage on the drive you select, and then highlight in red large sized folders, it can even delete files for you, just make sure you know what you're deleting

I know I read something about this some time ago but don't remember the answer. Where were the problem files hiding?
