My Mac history?
I own a Classic (sweet little "antique")
LC III
PowerMac
iMac
eMac
and I married a Mac (T. MacDonald K.)

Unfortunately, I teach AutoCAD & Inventor on PCs as my school system think they know best.

Right then, without the complete waste of space machines i purchased a little while ago, B.M. (before Mac), Various lap dancers & Desk flops from that Gates Guy????

i have under my humble roof, What started life as a new entry level macbook in October in very basic spec, so i pulled out the plastic and now it has 4GB of Ram (2 x 2GB hyperX), and i treated myself to a samsung 500GB sata drive up grade, with bootcamp running XP pro on it & of course "MAC OS X 10.5.6". i also running on it is Office.mac 08, iLife & iWork 08, all three Macfonts disks, logodesign pro, superduper, along with loads & loads more....

the only PC, is a HP unit, running Vista Business with an AMD thing in it, i dont know what i was thinking when i got it????, but we all learn in the end hey, lol.

other bits and bobs around the home include; iPhone 2g, iPhone 3g, 1 x iPod touch (latest version), another MacBook (but standard), Nokia E71, a couple of HTC handsets & apart from wireless laser & inkjet printers, and lots homeplugs connecting my home network together with ie Xbox360, 500gb networking hard drive, freecom media player and streamer, a couple of air extreme's one used as a itunes link to my JBL speakers, the other a "N" wireless access point over the other side of my house, all coming from a ADSL modem/router - DGN2000 (netgear), which is also accessing direct via ethernet cable another wireless N router / access point - The WNR2000 (also netgear) ... the list will and does go on, and im sure will never stop growing lol

Welcome aboard Chef,

My house has been PC free for just about, if not more than, a full year now with an iMac 24 & a MacBook Pro 17 taking the place of my AMD thing. I still find I've got twice the desk space and a third more leg room than I had before. Not to mention, almost 23 times the storage space I used to have with the PC.

What's great is that I didn't have to sacrifice actual space as my virtual system grew! 8) 8)

Nice one ...
I'm kind of tied to the P.C. Thing!!!! for the time being, as the missis got it one day with out me knowing for her to use, so is now locked away in a small room on the top floor of the house (The P.C. Thing that is, not the missis!!!!! lol), which is where it will stay for the rest of its days (which wont be long, as its a P.C.), never knowing what it was like to be apart of my home network

Anyway, an a brighter side ... I have a iMac on my wish list next to buy, i feel a need to use my plastic all of a sudden .... buy, buy, buy!!!!!

I don't think you'd be sorry picking up one of those. A lot of the folks here use them and are really pleased with them. 8) 8)

The 24" screen is AWESOME! Nicest one I've had the pleasure of owning. Quiet and fast!

Apple2GS-->Amiga's-->Mac SE-->Mac SE/30-->{LC,Mac2ci,MacII}-->NeXT Cube-->NeXT Station-->PC running OpenStep--> PC running Windows--> iMac-->iBook-->G4 Cube's -->Mac Mini (PPC)-->iMac (Intel)--> Mac Mini (Intel)'s --> {AppleTV/iPhone/iPod Touch}

Current main systems = iPhone, Mac Mini, Apple TV, HP 2710p Tablet

Have had an interest in Apple systems for a long time. Lost complete interest with System 7 and moved to NeXT. Returned to the Mac with OSX for obvious reasons. Am currently using tablet PC's and the Mini/iPhone for work although an iMac sits on my desk. No longer want to type. The Mini's are all connected to HDTV's as is the Apple TV. The Mini's are used for LaTeX, other work and running Plex, etc..

Never cared much for Windows but I love PC tablets and the way they work under Vista. I really wish Apple would believe in handwriting...

Other members of the family love MacBook's...

Hi!
I am new to this list but not to the Mac. My first Mac was a PowerMac from 1994, an educational model I got through UMD College Park, which immediately became the center of my new MIDI studio. Later I picked up a used Power Macintosh 7300/200, a vast improvement. Just today I received a refurbed MacBook Pro 17" 2.16 Ghz Intel Core Duo, which leads to my first question: how do I move my files from the 7300/200, running OS8.5, to my MacBook Pro running 10.4.11? I have already searched your archives and the Web for answers and I am coming up short. These machines only have one port in common: ethernet, and I tried to get them to talk to each other over that port without success. I tried uploading files to a web site but OS8.5 is just barely street-legal on most sites with a seriously outdated browser. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I seem to remember using ApoleTalk, which is still present in 10.5. If nothing else, burn the files to a CD, and use sneaker net.

Edit: It would be prudent to not publish your email address. If I were a moderator, I'd remove it for you.

G4 450 Cube... still runs and upgraded to Sonnet 1.2ghz, 1.5 G Ram, 120Gb HDD. Tiger 10.4.11
Gen.1 MacBook... runs great and using it as I type. Leopard 10.5.6
G3 iBook 500 dual USB. My wifes and she is still using it. Tiger 10.4

Cube was our first and it came with 9.0.4 and took a while to get used to. Then came OS X. What a life saver that was... made my computing world a whole lot easier, since I have never been very computer savvy, though if you asked my dad, (he only uses Macs) I am a genius, but it is only because I can now take the time to investigate a problem and not have to learn any computer geek speak since OS X is so user friendly. These types of forums and my local Apple Store have made it a lot easier for me to feel even more comfortable on such beautiful computers.

... I've been a closet Apple user since Apple II, MAC SE
and now an iMAC and most recently acquired a PowerMAC G5 dual 1.8

... having a bit of a challenge with this last unit and disassembling for thorough cleaning and to find a PCI card mounting screw which has fallen into the unit - I think behind the heat shield on the COY modules ... how the blazes doe sthis thing come off? (haven't found anything on the order of a service guide or intructions for doing this ... yet!)

I have an eMac running on a PowerPC G4 (2.1) 700Mhz which is still going strong: used mostly by my wife for letters and emails which keeps my Mac Pro free for me. The MacPro1.1 2.66Ghz was purchased at the beginning of 2008
